Frequently Asked Questions

HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST? Fees are based on a sliding scale determined in part by your income. The telephone intake clinician will set a fee with you. The fee will be reviewed by you and your therapist at the first meeting.

HOW LONG WILL THERAPY TAKE? It is difficult to estimate the length of a psychotherapy because each patient and their problems are unique. This is a question that both you and your therapist can discuss.

WHAT IF I NEED MEDICATION? If you and your therapist feel you require medication, you will be referred to one of our consulting psychiatrists.

WHAT TYPE OF THERAPY DOES THE WRIGHT INSTITUTE PROVIDE? The Clinic specializes in what is often called psychoanalytically oriented or psychodynamic psychotherapy. This approach to therapy focuses on an exploration of present difficulties, past history including early childhood experiences, and the relationships in your life including the relationship you develop with your therapist. The aim of our treatment approach is to reduce troubling symptoms such as depression and anxiety, enhance personal development and improve relationships and overall psychological well being. Therapy at WILA is open ended. It is available for as long as the patient and therapist believe is necessary to achieve treatment goals.

DO YOU DO FREUDIAN THERAPY? Freud invented "talking therapy" about a hundred years ago. Many of his discoveries remain valid although psychoanalytic theories and technique have changed greatly over the years. For example, contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a good deal more interactive than the treatment of even fifty years ago. We at Wright Institute Los Angeles strongly believe that our approach to psychotherapy is broad enough to be helpful to most patients.

DO YOU HAVE APPOINTMENTS IN THE EVENINGS OR ON SATURDAYS? The Clinic is open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Friday.

HOW TO APPLY? Call Wright Institute Los Angeles at 310.277.2796 and request a telephone intake. You will be scheduled for a 25 - 30-minute intake interview with one of the intake staff. There is no charge for this interview.
